Recruiting is picking up for the Ohio State Buckeyes and it’s the main talk around the program at this time of year. Ohio State football will start ramping up the summer workouts, but the end of May into the month of June is huge for recruiting.

Ohio State has a top-10 class so far for 2027, but there is plenty of work to do. The Buckeyes have 12 commitments and their most important visitor of the cycle will be taking his official visit this coming weekend.

Ohio State will have its top five-star target for 2027 in Columbus in a few days

The Buckeyes are swinging for the fences with the running back position this go around. Ohio State wants to land a premier running back recruit who can be a difference maker from Day 1. Ohio State got it from Bo Jackson a year ago even if he wasn’t a top running back in the class of 2025, and they hope to get it again in 2027.

Baylor School (TN) five-star RB David Gabriel Georges will begin his official visit to Columbus on Friday, May 29. It will be the first of four official visits scheduled for Gabriel Georges with all four of his finalists. After the visit to Ohio State, the No. 2 running back in the nation will take trips to Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Georgia each of the following weekends.

We know a decision is expected to come from Gabriel Georges on July 22, a bit after the official visits are wrapped up, and ahead of his senior season in high school.

Ohio State is the school to beat for the elite running back recruit David Gabriel Georges

The decision for Gabriel Georges is expected to come down to staying in Tennessee to play for the Vols or landing with Ohio State. The 6-foot, 215-pound running back is an Ohio State lean at this point, according to Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong

“I’m still riding with my prediction in favor of Ohio State for Chattanooga (Tenn.) Baylor School five-star running back David Gabriel Georges,” Wiltfong wrote recently. “With the way the Buckeyes have developed and showcased running backs, to the consistency of the program, to the competitive NIL opportunities, Ohio State checks the most boxes and is the best fit.”

This weekend’s visit is the key and the Buckeyes have to solidify their offer and plans to the Gabriel-Georges’ family. It’s a massive recruiting weekend for Ohio State ahead, and there’s no secret that the biggest talk of the town will be the elite running back with Day 1 starting potential.
