The Ohio State Buckeyes are turning up the heat on their recruiting efforts for the class of 2027. Ohio State has landed one commitment recently with four-star EDGE Wyatt Smith pledging to the Buckeyes, and more should be on the way.

Ohio State is sitting at 12 commitments for the class of 2027, but that’s going to change dramatically over the next couple of months. One recruit to watch was once the Indiana Hoosiers’ top commitment.

Ohio State is the school to beat for four-star CB in the Buckeye state

Princeton (OH) CB Monsanna Torbert Jr. pulled his commitment from Indiana on May 18 after being committed to the Hoosiers since January. Now, the Buckeyes are the team to beat in his recruitment.

A to Z Sports published the noise we were hearing around this recruitment a week ago.

“I saw him at a combine last Thursday. We are working on getting him up to campus for an official visit this summer. Well, at least we were,” a Power 4 defensive coordinator told A to Z Sports a week before Torbert pulled his commitment from Indiana. “It sounds like Ohio State is probably about to make a big push. Nobody thinks he’s going to say no to Ohio State if they do. It’s probably not even worth our time. The odds he ends up in Columbus are strong.”

Since then, Torbert has pulled his commitment from Indiana. As things stand today, I’m comfortable predicting that Torbert will end up in the class of 2027 for the Buckeyes. Ohio State will have to fight off multiple schools including Michigan and Notre Dame, but they’re very much the favorite to keep the 5-foot-10 cornerback in the Buckeye state.

Ohio State offered Torbert back on April 6 and from that moment they became the leader in the clubhouse for the four-star cornerback. According to 247 Sports Composite, Torbert is the No. 16 cornerback and No. 139 player nationally.

The Buckeyes don’t yet have a cornerback committed in 2027 and Torbert is a good candidate to be the first. Massillon Washington (OH) CB Deontay Malone is a good candidate to also join the Buckeyes as in-state defensive backs this cycle.

It’s a new world in college football where the Hoosiers are a force now. But for the Buckeyes to be able to flip their top commitment is a good development, and I believe they’re on track to make it happen at this time.
