The Lions should consider trading for former Pro Bowler
The Detroit Lions could be in position to trade for one established playmaker to bolster an important position group.
The Detroit Lions could be in the market for a depth wide receiver at some point during the 2023 offseason.
The Lions sat down with numerous wideouts at the NFL Combine, but the team could also choose to add a veteran in the free agency pool.
D.J. Chark, who was Detroit’s third-leading receiver in 2022, is set to hit free agency. In order to find his replacement, the Lions could turn to one former Pro Bowler to fill the void.
The Los Angeles Rams have given Allen Robinson permission to seek a trade. Things didn’t work out in L.A. for a variety of reasons, but the two sides appear to have mutually decided to split up.
It will be difficult for the Rams to find a trade partner who is willing to take on Robinson’s $18 million cap hit in each of the next two seasons. That being said, the only way for the Rams to get any sort of value out of trading would be through eating some of his guaranteed money in exchange for a mid-round draft pick.
The Lions have plenty of talented young players littered throughout the roster. Adding Robinson to fill in behind Amon-Ra St. Brown and a healthy Jameson Williams gives QB Jared Goff three fantastic options outside.
Keep in mind the Lions saw plenty of Robinson when he was with the Chicago Bears. In Chicago, he put up back-to-back seasons of at least 1,100 receiving yards. Perhaps a change in scenery could rejuvenate the 29-year-old playmaker.
