There are already signs that the Green Bay Packers could be making a major trade this offseason.

Or maybe I should say there are signs that Green Bay might be forced to make a trade.

Packers quarterback Jordan Love is in his third season in the NFL and he’s still riding the bench.

And it looks like he’ll be riding the bench again in 2023. That’s because it’s extremely unlikely that Aaron Rodgers retires and leaves nearly $60 million on the table.

If Rodgers returns, it sounds like Love might ask for a trade.

Recent comments from Love seem to indicate he’d like a trade if he doesn’t get a chance to start. He didn’t explicitly say that, but it’s easy to read between the lines.

“We’ll see,” said Love when asked about the possibility of a trade (via ESPN). “I would obviously be in the fourth year of my contract, and it would be the team’s possibility of picking up my fifth year. It’s really on them to see what kind of moves they want to make, what they want to do with the future.”

If Love does end up asking for a trade, I don’t think anyone would blame him. He’s not getting any younger and he wants a chance to start as he enters what should be the prime of his career.

We’ll see what happens, but unless Rodgers retires, I think the odds are good that Love is in a different uniform next season.
