247Sports recently named the top 10 most important games in the first month of the college football season and a Tennessee Vols matchup made the list.

The Vols’ game on September 24 against the Florida Gators made 247Sports’ list at No. 6.

From 247Sports:

We’ve mentioned the bevy of September challenges for the Gators, whose SEC opener comes against Kentucky two weeks prior to their first road game of the season inside a rowdy Neyland Stadium. The loser of this game is essentially out of the championship race in the Eastern Division considering the rest of the schedule for both teams. This will mark Tennessee’s most important home matchup in the Josh Heupel era and the Volunteers have a chance to exit the first month of the season unblemished if they’re able to win (and beat Pittsburgh as well). This is an underrated rivalry and should be a close game.

This is probably the Vols’ most important game of the season. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to suggest that Tennessee’s 2022 season will be largely defined by what happens in this game.

The Vols should beat Florida. The Gators have a new head coach and they’re installing a new culture, offense, etc.

Tennessee, meanwhile, is a bit more of an established team as Josh Heupel enters his second year leading the program.

Florida, however, still has talent. And we’ve seen plenty of “down” Gators teams beat Tennessee before. So the Vols will certainly have their work cut out for them in Knoxville on September 24.
