There’s plenty of hype surrounding new Tennessee Vols head coach Josh Heupel.

The Vols are exceeding expectations in Heupel’s first season leading the program. The offense has greatly improved. The defense looks better than it did a year ago. And the Vols are playing meaningful games in November.

But we are we getting too excited too soon?

Vol fans have been down this road several times before. First, it was Lane Kiffin, then Derek Dooley, Butch Jones, and Jeremy Pruitt. Every new coach at Tennessee gets hyped in year one.

This week on the Big Orange Podcast, Charlie Burris and I take a look at whether the hype for Heupel is justified. We also discuss the current state of Tennessee recruiting, Vols basketball, and the upcoming matchup with South Alabama.
