The 2022 NFL Draft just ended less than a week ago, but analysts are already turning their attention to the 2023 NFL Draft.

ESPN’s top draft analysts held a roundtable discussion after last weekend’s draft to discuss the top players in next year’s draft.

One of the questions the experts were asked was about under-the-radar 2023 draft prospects.

ESPN’ Jordan Reid named Tennessee Vols quarterback Hendon Hooker as his top under-the-radar prospect in next year’s draft.

From ESPN:

There always seems to be a QB in the draft who makes major strides in their development to significantly raise their stock. Keep an eye on Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker to be that guy in 2023. After transferring from Virginia Tech, Hooker had a huge year in coach Josh Heupel’s explosive offense, posting career highs in passing yards (2,945), TD passes (31) and completion percentage (68.2%). At 6-4, 218, he is comfortable inside and outside of the pocket and he can hit on passes to all three levels of the field.

If Hooker is selected in the upper rounds of the draft — day one or day two — it will be massive for the Vols.

Elite quarterback recruits usually want two things — a shot at a national championship in college and a chance to be drafted in the early rounds of the draft.

Tennessee is recruiting well right now when it comes to quarterbacks, but if Hooker is drafted high, it will confirm that Josh Heupel can get quarterbacks to the NFL.

Remember, Hooker wasn’t on the NFL draft radar before arriving at Tennessee from Virginia Tech.

A lot of folks might think it doesn’t matter what happens with Hooker after he’s finished at Tennessee. But his success in the NFL will be vital to the Vols’ future success with quarterbacks.
