Tennessee Vols head coach Josh Heupel is living his best life these days.

Heupel has Tennessee's football program on cruise control, an NCAA investigation into recruiting violations is now in the rearview mirror, and the Vols landed one of the top five-star recruits in the nation (wide receiver Mike Matthews) this past week.

It's easy to see why Heupel was feeling loose at SEC Media Days this week.

The third-year Vols head coach make the rounds on Thursday, meeting with numerous media outlets in Nashville before heading back to Knoxville to get ready for fall camp.

One of Heupel's media stops was with 104.5 The Zone's 3HL. During the interview, Heupel was asked about the quarterback position. And Heupel, who played quarterback at Oklahoma (and won a national championship), took a moment to jokingly "brag" about his own athletic abilities

"There's different styles of quarterbacks," said Heupel without cracking a smile. "I was a pure dual athlete, elite speed. You know what I mean?"

At that point, former Vols basketball standout and 3HL co-host Ron Slay was nodding his head in agreement before Heupel added "I can't believe you're buying that".

You can just tell that Heupel is comfortable as Tennessee's head coach. He's comfortable doing interviews and being…..real.

When Heupel does these interviews, he doesn't feel like a coach talking. He just feels like a normal dude who's easy to get along with. Heupel comes across as someone that you'd enjoy hanging out with or playing a round of golf with. That's not something that can be said about every SEC head coach (can you imagine a round of golf with Nick Saban or Jimbo Fisher…it would be like hanging out with a couple of politicians).

Heupel's personality is a big reason why Tennessee is excelling on the recruiting trail. "Real" is something that recruits want. And they certainly get that with Heupel.
