The Tennessee Vols are hoping to steal a top recruit from the Alabama Crimson Tide.

GoVols247 reported on Tuesday that 2024 four-star wide receiver Perry Thompson is set to visit Tennessee this weekend for UT’s junior day.

Thompson has been committed to Alabama since last summer.

Thompson, 6-foot-3/202 lbs from Foley, AL, is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 3 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 2 player in the state of Alabama. He’s also rated as the No. 28 overall player in the 2024 recruiting class.

Thompson spoke with Bama Online last week about his recruitment and he indicated that he’s still solidly committed to the Tide.

“Everything’s going pretty good,” said Thompson. “I’ve still got a solid relationship with all the coaches and stuff.”

“I feel good. I’m still locked in with Alabama. Everything’s going pretty good. I’m ready to see how they do this season.”

It seems unlikely that Tennessee will be able to flip the Alabama native, but they’re at least taking their shot.

If the Vols can somehow pull off stealing a top commit from Bama, it would be one of the biggest recruiting wins of the Josh Heupel era. Flipping an Alabama commit is rare for any program and it would be another sign that Tennessee football is going to be a problem in the SEC for years to come.
