Brent Key’s press conference quote about Josh Heupel goes viral and Vols fans are now feeling a certain way about Georgia Tech’s head coach
The Tennessee Volunteers will travel to Atlanta this weekend for a road matchup against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
Georgia Tech head coach Brent Key has spent the week lambasting his team (and himself) for the Yellow Jackets’ home loss to the Colorado Buffaloes last week.
The Buffaloes beat Georgia Tech 14-13 last week in an ugly game where the Yellow Jackets were surprisingly pushed around by an undersized Colorado team.
Key called Georgia Tech’s performance against Colorado “soft.”
“You watch that thing (the loss to Colorado) and you see an unprepared, undisciplined, poorly coached soft football team,” said Key on 680 The Fan on Tuesday. “That’s what I just said in my press conference as well. As soon as that thing’s over, you’re going back and you’re searching and looking and seeing why those things took place.”
Brent Key’s quote about Josh Heupel goes viral
On Tuesday, Key met with reporters and he was asked what he thought about Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel saying he expects a physical game against Georgia Tech.
The question led to a hilarious interaction between Key and a reporter.
Reporter: “Saturday is another opportunity for you and your program and your team. Coach Heupel described this game as he knows it’s going to be physical, and obviously we know that is Georgia Tech’s identity.”
Key: “Did he say that before or after he watched the last game?”
Reporter: “I think after.”
Key: “Yeah, Josh is being nice then.”
Vols fans are known for being a tough bunch on social media, but the reaction to Key’s viral moment has overwhelmingly been: “We like this guy.”
Key’s a good coach, and he’s certainly likeable. I think he’ll have Georgia Tech looking much better in Week 2 than they did in Week 1. I still think this is a game the Vols should win, but I don’t think it’ll be a blowout.
