Chaz Coleman is officially no longer part of Tennessee’s football program, but a new report makes his situation even more confusing
Penn State transfer EDGE addition Chaz Coleman is officially no longer part of Tennessee’s football program, but his situation is still very confusing.
Penn State transfer EDGE Chaz Coleman is officially no longer part of the Tennessee Vols football program.
On3’s Pete Nakos and Chris Low broke the news on Friday morning that Coleman has been medically disqualified from Tennessee’s roster.
This had long been expected after Coleman missed most of spring practice and declined to take part in summer workouts with the rest of the team. For the last few months it’s been a matter of when not if.
Some fans have wondered if Coleman will be eligible to play another team this fall.
For that to happen, there would have to be some sort of special exception/waiver. And there are no clear answers as to whether that’s even a possibility. Essentially, it’s unclear if he has any avenue to play anywhere this fall. It’s also unclear if Coleman wants to play football this fall.
There’s also the fact that Coleman, according to a report from CBS Sports, is remaining on scholarship at Tennessee after being medically disqualified from football.
“Though Coleman has been medically disqualified from the football program, the Vols have kept Coleman on scholarship, per a source,” wrote CBS Sports’ Chris Hummer.
“It’s also unclear whether Coleman wants to play football in 2026, after speaking with several sources,” added Hummer. “If he does, the conversation about Coleman’s scholarship status with Tennessee would have to be reopened.”
This is an unprecedented situation, though it appears Tennessee is trying to handle it the right way. Unfortunately, there are no clear answers at this time, but we’ll certainly keep an eye on the situation and any potential developments.
