ESPN’s Greg McElroy has been very accurate at predicting the final score of Tennessee’s games this season.

McElroy hasn’t predicted every game, but he’s been pretty close on the ones he has predicted.

He had Texas beating Tennessee 24-20 (Texas won 20-17) and he had Tennessee beating Auburn 27-17 (Tennessee won 24-14). McElroy also had Tennessee beating Georgia Tech 31-20 (the Vols won 45-24…he would’ve been closer on that one if not for the late Daune Morris rushing touchdown).

Most recently, McElroy predicted that South Carolina would beat Tennessee 27-24, and that’s exactly what happened.

Greg McElroy makes his final score prediction for Kentucky vs Tennessee

McElroy made his final score prediction for this weekend’s big game between Kentucky and Tennessee, and he has the Vols escaping with a 28-20 win.

“The best pass rush (Tennessee) in FBS against a protection that leaks off the edges (Kentucky) is the one mismatch in this game that Kentucky is going to have to scheme their way around,” said McElroy. “Every sack puts Kentucky behind the chains, and Kentucky’s third-down offense is already kind of near the bottom of the FBS before it ever saw a rush quite like this.

“Now, Kentucky’s ball security is going to keep this thing a game for four quarters, but Tennessee’s run game can keep its own third downs short, and Kentucky has struggled [defending] third and short situations this year. I’m taking Tennessee to win the game 28-20. They cover the five and a half (point spread). So, we’re on the under at 50.5. But Kentucky has lived on the property line kind of all year. They’ve played close games and they’ve found a way to win. So if they won this, I wouldn’t be at all surprised. But I think Tennessee gets it done. I think they cover the number there in Knoxville.”

Tennessee and Kentucky will kick off at 6:15 PM ET on Saturday in Neyland Stadium. The game will air on ESPN.
