Someone needs to rescue former Tennessee Vols WR Cedric Tillman from what’s happening in Cleveland
Former Tennessee Volunteers wide receiver Cedric Tillman, who played for Josh Heupel and Jeremy Pruitt during his time on Rocky Top, is in a rough situation with the Cleveland Browns.
Someone needs to rescue former Tennessee Volunteers wide receiver Cedric Tillman.
No, he hasn’t been kidnapped, and his life isn’t in danger — Tillman simply has the misfortune of playing for the Clevland Browns.
The former Vol is a in a tough spot entering the summer months. The Browns’ quarterback situation is a disaster, and the depth chart is getting very, very crowded.
Cedric Tillman named as the Browns’ best player who could be cut this summer
Tillman, a third-round selection by the Browns in the 2023 NFL Draft, has found moderate success since entering the NFL.
The Las Vegas native has caught 71 passes for 833 yards and five touchdowns over his first three seasons with the Browns.
Those numbers, however, apparently weren’t good enough for Cleveland to make Tillman, who has battled injuries early in his career, a focal point of the passing game moving forward. The Browns selected Texas A&M wide receiver KC Concepcion in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Cleveland also selected Washington wide receiver Denzel Boston in the second round.
Concepcion and Boston join Jerry Jeudy as the likely top three options on the Browns’ depth chart. Cleveland also has second year receiver Isaiah Bond on the roster (Bond caught 18 passes for 338 yards as a rookie last season, compared to Tillman’s 270 receiving yards last season).
As a result of Cleveland’s offseason wide receivers additions, Bleacher Report recently named Tillman as the Browns’ best player who could be cut this summer.
From Bleacher Report: The Cleveland Browns selected KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston in the first two rounds of this year’s draft. They could feature the pair of rookies along with established veteran Jerry Jeudy in three-receiver sets. As an inside-outside pass-catching threat, undrafted wideout Isaiah Bond flashed his big-play ability, averaging 18.8 yards per catch. Entering a contract year, Cedric Tillman hasn’t produced enough to surpass Jeudy on the depth chart or show that he has the upside comparable to Bond and two top-40 draft picks. On top of that, he’s battled injuries in all three of his pro seasons.

Title
Tillman needs to stay healthy if he wants his NFL career to take off, but he also needs to find a way out of Cleveland. He’s in serious danger of getting buried on the bench — much like his former teammate Jalin Hyatt has been with the New York Giants — and essentially ruining his chances of receiving a decent free agent deal next offseason.
Getting cut by the Browns could be the best thing that ever happens to Tillman’s career.
