Tennessee sophomore suffered a season-ending injury in Vols’ win against Furman
A tough early season for the Tennessee Volunteers.
The Tennessee Vols made it out of their season-opening win against Furman mostly unscathed, but not completely unscathed.
According to a report from VolQuest’s Austin Price, Tennessee sophomore wide receiver Joakim Dodson suffered a season-ending injury when he was hurt on a kick return against Furman (you can read more about the injury here).
Dodson wasn’t in line to start for the Vols, but it’s still a tough loss for Tennessee after the Memphis native had a strong fall camp.
“Multiple sources told On3 that receiver Joakim Dodson had a strong scrimmage and is emerging as a reliable target to whoever ends up winning the starting job,” reported On3’s Pete Nakos last month after Tennessee’s first fall scrimmage.
Dodson turned some heads in the Music City Bowl last December with a 95-yard kick return for a touchdown, but he had an otherwise quiet true freshman season with just two receptions for 38 yards.
Dodson was listed on Tennessee’s first depth chart as one of the backups to starting wide receiver Brayon Staley. True freshman Tyreek King will now operate as the primary backup to Staley (King and Dodson were listed as co-backups to Staley).
