Former Tennessee Vols EDGE Byron Young has had a tremendous first three seasons in the NFL with the Los Angeles Rams.

Young, a third round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, burst onto the scene as a rookie, totaling eight sacks in 2023.

The former Vol maintained that production during his sophomore season — 7.5 sacks in 2024 — before enjoying the best season of his career in 2025 when he finished with 12 sacks and a career high 82 tackles.

Young’s strong start to his NFL career has him in line to potentially land a big extension from the Rams as he enters a contract year.

Despite the great start to his NFL career, Young isn’t without some regrets.

Specifically, Young says he wishes he would’ve leaned on future Hall of Fame defensive lineman Aaron Donald for advice as a rookie in 2023 (Donald, who is weighing a return to the NFL, retired after the 2023 season).

And Young isn’t about to make that mistake with superstar EDGE Myles Garrett, the Rams’ newest pass rusher.

“I think I was just young and didn’t understand the opportunities I had to get him to open up and help my game until he left,” said Young to ESPN. “So now, I’m not going to make that same mistake with Myles Garrett. I pick his brain all the time.”

Young also thinks the Rams’ defense in 2026 — thanks mainly to the addition of Garrett — could be “the best to ever do it.”

“We could be the best to ever do it,” said Young. “I’m not afraid to put that out there. Coming off already being a good defense, adding those DBs and one of the best edge rushers to ever do it? Having that and already being the type of group that’s growing and getting better and kind of already established, there’s no telling what we can do.”

It’s a bold statement from Young, but there’s no doubt that Los Angeles will have one of the most talented units in the NFL — especially if Donald unretires.
