Former Tennessee Vols quarterback is embarking on a new career path after nearly a decade in the NFL
A former Tennessee Volunteers quarterback is reportedly embarking on a new career path after spending nearly a decade in the NFL. The former Vol, though, will still be involved in NFL matters.
A former Tennessee Vols quarterback is reportedly embarking on a new career path after spending nearly a decade in the NFL.
According to The Sports Business Journal, former Vols quarterback Nathan Peterman is working to become a certified NFL agent.
Peterman was a Range Sports client as an NFL player. He’s remaining with the agency where he’ll work under NFLPA agent Kyle Strongin.
“I got to live through what I’m now getting tested on in the CBA,” said Peterman to The Sports Business Journal. “Being up and down on a roster, being put on IR, negotiating contracts. I hope I can help a younger person that’s on a similar journey.”
Nate Peterman spent time with five NFL teams during his pro career
Peterman spent the first three seasons of his career at Tennessee before landing at Pittsburgh as a graduate transfer (this was pre transfer portal).
The Jacksonville native was selected by the Buffalo Bills in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
Peterman started four games for the Bills over two seasons before landing with the Oakland Raiders. The only other start in Peterman’s career came in 2022 when he started a game for the Chicago Bears (Peterman was 1-4 as a starter in his NFL career).
The former Vol also spent time with the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons.
Peterman, who was last on an NFL roster in 2024, finished his NFL career with 712 passing yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for a touchdown.
Those aren’t numbers that will blow anyone away, but the fact that Peterman spent nearly a decade in the NFL is a hell of an accomplishment. That’s something that very few people who touch a football will ever accomplish.
And I’ll be honest, when Peterman made his first career start for the Vols on the road against Florida in 2013, I didn’t think there was any chance he’d ever play a snap in the NFL (two interceptions and a fumble in the first half before getting benched for Justin Worley in the loss to the Gators).
So hey, congrats to Peterman on reaching a level of athletics few will ever reach, and for his new career as an NFL agent.
