It only took a couple of days for Josh Elander’s biggest offseason move to pay off in a big way for Tennessee

Tennessee Vols baseball coach Josh Elander made a big move last week, and it’s already paying off for UT baseball.

Late last week, Elander and the Volunteers parted ways with pitching coach Josh Reynolds after Tennessee posted its worst team ERA in a season since 2013.

The Vols hired ECU pitching coach Austin Knight to replace Reynolds.

Austin Knight lands his first transfer at Tennessee

On Monday night, Tennessee landed a commitment from Northwestern State transfer LHP Brody Trosclair.

Trosclair, 5-foot-11/186 pounds from Thibodaux, LA, was named the 2026 Southland Conference Freshman of the Year this past season.

The Louisiana native recorded a 1.89 ERA in 38 innings of work while striking out 55 batters. Trosclair appeared in 10 games with four starts.

Tennessee landed Trosclair over Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, and LSU.

Winning an SEC transfer battle is a big deal for any pitching coach, but winning a battle for a Louisiana native over LSU is particularly impressive. That certainly shows that the addition of Knight is instantly paying off for Elander and the Vols.

Trosclair had season-ending elbow surgery in April (he had the internal brace procedure instead of Tommy John surgery, a la former Tennessee RHP AJ Russell). The lefty told The Advocate that he plans to begin throwing in October, and that he’ll be ready to pitch next season (though that obviously depends on how smooth his rehab goes).
