If you’re a Tennessee fan who is flabbergasted that the Vols are ranked eight spots below Alabama in the initial College Football Playoff rankings, you’re far from alone.

Numerous national college football analysts and talking heads are lambasting the CFP committee’s decision to rank Alabama at No. 5 and Tennessee at No. 13.

Tennessee and Alabama are both 6-2, but the Vols own a 16-point head-to-head win over the Crimson Tide.

ESPN’s Paul Finebaum is among those who can’t understand why Alabama is ranked so much higher than Tennessee.

“Alabama has no business being where they are,” said Finebaum on ESPN’s Get Up. “That is truly absurd to have Alabama that far ahead of Tennessee, a team that just disemboweled them a couple weeks ago in Neyland Stadium.”

“And for the committee to value Alabama’s win five or six weeks ago at Mississippi State when the quarterback, Kamario Taylor, was in the game and then became injured, makes no sense,” continued Finebaum. “But then again, I’m used to the committee not making a lot of sense. I’m hoping that this was some late Halloween trick on America.”

The good news for the Vols is that they still control their own destiny. If they go 4-0 in November, they’ll be in the 12-team playoff.

Though it’s fair for Vols fans to wonder at this point if a 10-2 Tennessee team would jump a 9-3 Alabama team. It sounds crazy, but this committee has lost its mind, so it wouldn’t be shocking.
