Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio has an idea that could mean a lot more Peyton Manning for everyone.

Florio noted this week that the ManningCast — ESPN’s alternate Monday Night Football that airs various times throughout the season — is seeing its ratings continue to decline.

The ManningCast is hosted by Peyton and his younger brother, Eli Manning.

Florio suggested that if the ManningCast is shelved by ESPN, then maybe Peyton could be an option to replace Troy Aikman as Joe Buck’s partner on the traditional Monday Night Football broadcast.

“Given the ongoing trend, the ESPN2 alt casts don’t feel sustainable. Whatever they cost, it’s an expense without any real added revenue,” wrote Florio this week. “The best result could be to move the Next Gen Stats version to the bigger platform of ESPN2 — and then to lure Peyton (and possibly Eli) into the primary booth with Buck. Surely, ESPN already has a post-Aikman plan in its back pocket. While some think it will result in the hiring of Greg Olsen, a merger of the ManningCast with the main broadcast could be the best way forward, for everyone.”

Buck recently agreed to a contract extension with ESPN, so he’s not going anywhere.

Aikman, though, doesn’t have a new deal, and there’s been some public tension between him and Buck. The feeling is that Buck will have a new partner next season.

I’d love to see Peyton in the booth on Monday nights, but I’m not sure it’s a job that appeals to him. Part of the allure of doing the ManningCast for Peyton is that he doesn’t have to travel and he doesn’t do it every week.

Would he be willing to take on a more rigorous role with ESPN?

I think the answer is no. But hey, you never know.
