The San Francisco 49ers made it clear how they feel about former Tennessee Vols DL Bryson Eason ahead of training camp
Former Tennessee Volunteers defensive lineman Bryson Eason landed with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent this offseason.
Former Tennessee Vols defensive lineman Bryson Eason is hoping to make the San Francisco 49ers’ 53-man roster ahead of the 2026 season.
Eason, who played at Tennessee from 2020 to 2025, was signed by the 49ers as an undrafted free agent in April.
It’s typically an uphill battle for an undrafted free agent to make a 53-man roster as a rookie, but Eason could have a good shot.
The 49ers were very high on Eason ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft. San Francisco defensive line coach Kris Kocurek, in fact, said earlier this summer that he felt that Eason should’ve been drafted.
That’s why the 49ers quickly pounced on Eason once the draft was over.
It’s certainly not a surprise to hear that the 49ers are high on Eason. The former Vol has always been viewed as a high upside player. An SEC assistant coach, after all, described Eason this offseason as a player that an NFL team will be glad they drafted.
“He got better every year,” said an SEC assistant to ESPN of Eason. “Whoever ends up taking that kid is going to be pleasantly surprised. He’s super strong, he can run. He’s a Day 3 guy that I think people are going to be glad they took.”
Eason finished his career at Tennessee with 105 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks. The feeling is that the Memphis native still has loads of untapped potential (Vols defensive line coach Rodney Garner believes Eason has top round NFL talent).
Considering how high the 49ers are on him, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Eason playing for San Francisco on Sundays this fall.
