The Tennessee Vols were on the wrong end of some bad recruiting news to start the week.

On Monday, 2026 four-star wide receiver Legend Bey flipped his commitment from Tennessee to Ohio State.

Bey, who is rated by 247Sports as the No. 24 athlete in the nation, had been committed to Tennessee since late June.

The four-star recruit flipped his commitment following a visit to Columbus for Ohio State’s win over Penn State.

Vols insider dishes on Legend Bey flipping from Tennessee to Ohio State

Bey appeared to be solidly committed to the Vols until he took the visit to Ohio State earlier this month.

Once that visit happened, the writing was on the wall for Bey to flip.

“Obviously, the loss of Legend Bey is a blow,” said VolQuest’s Austin Price on Tuesday on 104.5 The Zone’s Ramon and Will. “I mean, Ohio State is Ohio State — their track record with skill players over the last decade or so is one that you don’t sneeze at. And once [Bey] took the visit, you felt like that’s probably not a good sign. And here we are a week and a half later and he’s pulled the trigger for the Buckeyes. And you just have to move on.”

The Vols obviously didn’t want to lose Bey, but as Price noted, Ohio State is Ohio State — they’re the first choice for many recruits right now (and you can’t blame them after the way Ohio State charged through the College Football Playoff last season).

Another factor in Bey’s decision, according to to On3’s Sam Spiegelman, was the path to early playing time at Ohio State.

“Bey is in search of the right fit on the field, which includes a path to playing time as a freshman,” noted Spiegelman.

You can’t win every recruiting battle. The Vols did all they could to hold on to Bey, but he ultimately decided he wants to be a Buckeye instead of a Vol. That’s just how it goes in recruiting sometimes.
