Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Joey Aguilar wasn’t selected in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Despite passing for over 3,500 yards at Tennessee last season, Aguilar was forced to find a home in the NFL as an undrafted free agent.

Fortunately for Aguilar, it didn’t take long to find a new home as the former Vol signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars shortly after the draft ended.

Signing with the Jaguars was a brilliant decision by Joey Aguilar

It’s unclear what other options Aguilar had, but landing in Jacksonville is an ideal scenario for the California native.

Aguilar obviously isn’t going to compete for a starting job as an undrafted free agent. Maybe he earns a chance to compete for a starting job down the road — you never know what the future holds — but for now, Aguilar’s only goal is to make a 53-man roster.

And he should have a good opportunity to do that in Jacksonville.

Trevor Lawrence, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, is the Jaguars’ unquestioned starting quarterback.

Beyond Lawrence, though, the Jaguars’ depth at quarterback is thin.

The other two quarterbacks on the Jaguars’ roster are veteran Nick Mullens and Carter Bradley, a former South Alabama quarterback who went undrafted in 2024.

Mullens has five pass attempts over the last two seasons. Bradley, the son of Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Gus Bradley, has never attempted a regular season pass in the NFL.

Aguilar will have an uphill battle ahead of him to make the Jaguars’ 53-man roster, and it’s always possible that Jacksonville brings in another quarterback this offseason, but this appears to be a favorable situation for the former Vol.

It would’ve been easy to chase an opportunity on the west coast (closer to home for Aguilar), but Aguilar found a situation where he has a legitimate chance to make the 53-man roster with a strong training camp and preseason.
