Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Joey Aguilar has a home in the NFL after going unselected in the 2026 NFL Draft.

According to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero, Aguilar is signing as an undrafted free agent with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Trevor Lawrence is entrenched as the Jaguars’ starting quarterback.

But there isn’t much depth behind Lawrence. The Jaguars currently have Nick Mullens and Carter Bradley on the roster, so Aguilar should have a chance to earn a backup job this summer, though it’ll be an uphill battle for the former Vol.

Aguilar spent one season at Tennessee, passing for 3,565 yards and 24 touchdowns with 10 interceptions in 2025. He spent the previous two seasons at Appalachian State.

The California native wasn’t a prospect that received much hype during the draft cycle, but he was heavily praised by former Super Bowl MVP Phil Simms.

“Listen, when you watch him play, you go, wow,” said Simms of Aguilar earlier this spring. “He looks like a pro quarterback already. He’s a big guy, 6-foot-3… He’s athletic enough. The size that he is is a big deal, too. Because, man, he took some, well, there’s no other way to say it — he took some ass whoopings down there. He’s throwing the ball and, I mean, he’s just getting blown up. But he has great technique throwing the football. He’s another one who doesn’t lose control… He uses his feet really well.”

Aguilar will turn 25 on June 16.
