Former Tennessee Vols quarterback makes surprising career decision after opportunity with the Titans doesn’t work out
A former Tennessee Volunteers quarterback made a surprising career decision recently after a rookie minicamp opportunity with the Tennessee Titans didn’t turn into a contract.
A former Tennessee Vols quarterback made an interesting career decision this week.
Former Tennessee quarterback Kaidon Salter received a rookie minicamp tryout with the Tennessee Titans after going unselected in the 2026 NFL Draft.
The minicamp opportunity with the Titans, however, didn’t turn into a contract offer for Salter.
Instead of seeking out another opportunity in the NFL (at least for now), Salter is heading north to play in the Canadian Football League (CFL).
Salter signed with the BC Lions last week.
The Texas native has been with the BC Lions for less than a week, but he’s already impressing with his quick release.
Salter, a former four-star recruit who finished his career at Colorado after spending four seasons at Liberty, was only at Tennessee for a few months. He was dismissed from the team in June 2021 after an off-the-field incident.
“To the University of Tennessee and fanbase (Vol nation) A VERY SINCERE thank you for all the genuine love you all have shown,” wrote Salter in a social media post after getting dismissed from the UT football program. “Big thanks to the current and previous coaching staff for the opportunity and I wish the program nothing but success. To my teammates, I will forever be thankful for the brotherhood and bond that was created on and off the field and in the locker room. I would not have been able to get through these last 6 months without the love and support from God, my parents, my siblings, my church family, and my coaches in Texas.
“My past mistakes are meant to guide me, not define me. Everyone makes mistakes in life, but that doesn’t mean I have to pay for my mistakes the rest of my life. Good people do make bad choices. It doesn’t mean I’m bad. It just means I’m human.”
Salter was the Conference-USA MVP in 2023 after passing for 2,876 yards and 32 touchdowns and rushing for 1,089 yards and 12 touchdowns.
