A former Tennessee Vols defensive back who joined former UT offensive coordinator Alex Golesh at Auburn earlier this offseason has reportedly left the Tigers’ football program.

Former Vols defensive back Jack Luttrell transferred to Auburn in January after spending the last two seasons at Arizona.

Luttrell, a former three-star recruit, signed with Tennessee out of high school.

The Georgia native spent one season with the Vols before entering the NCAA transfer portal.

(Golesh left Tennessee to take over as the head coach at USF after the 2022 season, so he didn’t coach Luttrell on Rocky Top.)

Jack Luttrell no longer with Auburn football

According to a report from AL.com, Luttrell is medically retiring from football.

“Auburn safety Jack Luttrell has medically retired, a source told AL.com, and is no longer listed on Auburn’s online roster,” reported AL.com’s Peter Rauterkus. “Luttrell transferred to Auburn from Arizona this offseason, but was limited during spring practice with an injury. He missed the majority of the 2025 season with injury as well, dealing with a shoulder injury during his time at Arizona.”

Luttrell played in three games for the Vols in 2023, but he didn’t record any stats.

The former Vol’s best season came in 2024 when he totaled 39 tackles and three interceptions at Arizona. Luttrell also recorded an interception in 2025.
