Tennessee Vols quarterback Nico Iamaleava, the five-star phenom who signed with UT last month, delivered a heartfelt speech this weekend while receiving a prestigious award.
Iamaleava was named the Polynesian High School Football Player of the Year while at the Polynesian Bowl in Hawaii this week.
And he gave a great speech while accepting the award that referenced his family and where his love for football started.
"I am humbled and honored to be here," said Iamaleava. "Our heavenly Father has truly blessed my family in so many ways. I hope to use my platform to do good, spread the gospel, and represent our culture as well as my family name."
"My dad trained me since I was in diapers," added Iamaleava. "My love for football started with the video game, Madden. My dad would seat me on his lap in nothing but a diaper while he played and I watched him."
The way that Ialameava carries himself and handles public appearances is remarkable. It's hard to believe that he should still be in high school right now. Watching him interact with fans and media is like watching a 10-year NFL veteran. You can certainly tell that he comes from a great family.
Tennessee definitely has something special in Nico. It's going to be a lot of fun seeing what he can do on Rocky Top in Josh Heupel's potent offensive attack.
