Four-time Pro Bowler has the Saints on hold
The Saints want to sign free agent quarterback Derek Carr, but ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler spoke on Wednesday about how the veteran is weighing his options
The New Orleans Saints are in the market for a new starting quarterback, and veteran Derek Carr is the prize they want to secure.
Carr has taken a visit to the Saints' facility and meet with them on Tuesday in Indianapolis where the NFL scouting combine is taking place.
All of that is a positive sign for the Saints. However, when ESPN's Jeremy Fowler sat down on Wednesday with Eric Allen, senior director of Jets 360 Productions, he mentioned how Carr is weighing every option he has.
"Saints, it's my understanding that they want to get something done with Derek Carr like they’re ready to do that," said Fowler. "So, he has options. It's just I get the sense that you know he's just sort of waiting it out patiently so that that second team can get heavily involved along with the Saints and then you have more leverage."
Carr has also met with the Carolina Panthers and the New York Jets. Fowler also mentioned that Carr may want to head to the NFC due to the quarterback hierarchy not being as fierce as the AFC. So, that bodes well for the Panthers' chances.
Although Carr is undoubtedly the Saints guy, they shouldn't be too surprised at the way he's operating.
They had the framework for a trade for Carr from the Las Vegas Raiders but he vetoed it so that he could be released, thus giving him as many options as possible.
Carr is heading into his 10th NFL season so picking the right situation is paramount because no player ever knows how long they have to play the game of football, I mean, anything can happen as far as injuries and whatnot. So, it'll be interesting to see how this all plays out and who will end up with Carr's services in 2023 and beyond.
