Orlando Brown Jr., the son of former NFL offensive tackle Orlando Brown Sr., was originally selected No. 83 overall in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He played and started three years (2015-17) at left tackle for Oklahoma and became one of the only three players to be named Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year multiple times in ’16 and ’17.

Baltimore started Brown at right tackle in the middle of his rookie year and never took him off the field after that. He got the chance to start at LT in 2020 but was not considered the team’s long-term option at the position, which prompted him to request a trade off the team. Kansas City acquired him days before the 2021 draft and started him at LT for two seasons. He made a combined four Pro Bowls and helped win a Super Bowl title in his first five years.

The Bengals signed Brown in 2023, giving him a chance to play LT for the long haul. He had a rough 2023 but started 2024 off really strong before a knee injury derailed his season. The entire offensive line struggled to start 2025, including Brown, but he settled in the last seven games of the year, allowing just two sacks and posting the 20th-best Pass Blocking Efficiency score out of 57 starting tackles.

Contract details

Brown signed a two-year, $32,00,000 extension with Cincinnati leading up to free agency. He had one year remaining on his original four-year, $64 million deal he signed as a free agent in 2023. His new base salary is $3,500,000 this season, and he can earn up to $3,000,000 in per game roster bonuses throughout the year. He’s already earned a $14,000,000 roster bonus, and a $350,000 workout bonus. He’s scheduled to make $20,850,000 in cash this year. His salary cap hit for the season comes out to $19,291,666 due to the roster bonus being prorated over the life of the contract, and part of his original roster bonus still needs to be accounted for on the cap this year.

Roster outlook

Brown has had his fair share of ups and downs in his three years with the Bengals. They were on display in the preseason-opener when he allowed a sack and another hit on quarterback Joe Burrow.

Offensive linemen are defined by their worst reps. Brown isn’t the Pro Bowler he once was in Baltimore and Kansas City, but compared to 63 other starters, he’s capable of playing better than many.

Cincinnati extended Brown to the same average annual value he signed for three years ago. He’s paid like a league-average tackle because that’s exactly who he is. The deal confirms he’s here for this year, and most likely the next.
