There looked to be something off with Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow during Wednesday’s practice.

Burrow was quite limited during the opening of practice. Reporters watched him not partake in team stretches. He threw very light passes during the portion open to media while other QBs went through their normal workload.

Burrow cleared the air following practice, stating back tightness is what he’s dealing with.

“I feel good,” Burrow said during his weekly press conference. “Normal game day soreness, that’s for sure, but I’ll be alright.

Burrow was then asked if he’s in any danger of missing Sunday’s game and shut that door immediately.

“No. . .that’s ridiculous.”

Joe Burrow may’ve suffered a minor back injury

Burrow played the entirety of Week 1’s victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He completed 25 of 32 passes for 254 yards, a touchdown, and a pick-six. Backup QB Joe Flacco came in for one play that wasn’t even snapped.

There was never any indication Burrow was hurt. He was sacked once, but the first hit of the game was delivered on his right shoulder. The 29-year-old scrambled to the left sideline and got hit right as he crossed the first down marker with four minutes remaining in the first quarter.

“You want the first down, and he wants the first down, and you want a guy that’s going to fight for every yard,” head coach Zac Taylor said of Burrow prior to Wednesday’s practice. “And I think that’s what he’s proven to us is he’s willing to use his legs to to get us everything we can. He put us in a great scoring position with a quarterback draw at the end and the half, and so that’s a weapon he’s got, and when he uses it, I’m not going to second guess every decision he makes. That’s easy to do, but he understands the moments and when he needs to do it, when he needs to get down, when he needs to fight for the extra yardage. that was situation where he did that.”

Burrow also ran a couple QB sneaks during the game. The second and last one of the game featured two Buccaneers players tackling Burrow as his right shoulder hit the ground first.

Taylor told reporters at the end of the game the Bengals didn’t suffer any notable injuries.

“Maybe a couple guys limited earlier in the week,” Taylor said. “But came out pretty clean.”

We’ll find out soon if Burrow is indeed listed as limited with a back injury.
