Lions inactives vs. Vikings: One usual inactive could find himself in trade conversations ahead of the deadline

Detroit’s Week 8 inactive list contains few surprises, but another healthy scratch for Hassanein raises an interesting question about his future with the trade deadline approaching.

The Detroit Lions are a couple of hours away from what feels like the biggest game of the year against the Minnesota Vikings. Before we get to that, let’s talk about who won’t be playing in this game. Here are the Lions’ Week 8 inactives:

Ahmed Hassanein

At this point, you have to wonder if Hassanein might be a sneaky trade candidate ahead of the deadline. It’s strange that we haven’t seen him play, but then again, Eric O’Neill has kind of blown up his spot with his special teams ability. Tyler Lacy is coming off a decent game against the Packers. The Lions are just kind of set on the edge right now. Perhaps a team willing to offer a Day 3 pick could pry him away.

Bishop Fitzgerald, Mekhi Wingo, Jackson Meeks, Seth McLaughlin

Each of these guys was expected to be inactive this week. As we’ve been saying, Fitzgerald and Meeks are feeling more and more like 2027 players for the Lions, and Wingo and McLaughlin are feeling like emergency guys. It would be cool to see Wingo play at some point, though. Just to see what you have there with regular-season reps.
