The NFL has made its decision on a punishment for Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown after ‘punching’ Commanders lineman Daron Payne

Pretty much exactly what we thought St. Brown would get

There’s been some controversy for the Detroit Lions this week after Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown got in a scuffle with Washington Commanders defensive lineman Daron Payne.

Initially, all we saw was Payne walking up to St. Brown and punching him in the face after Jahmyr Gibbs scored a touchdown. After the game, Payne’s teammate Javon Kinlaw said that it was St. Brown who actually threw the first punch. There was no proof at the time until Payne took to his Instagram and posted the proof that St. Brown did, in fact, strike first. St. Brown would later go on his podcast and admit he was wrong and that he hit Payne.

So far, the only thing that’s come from this whole thing is that Payne is suspended for a game. He appealed his suspension, and it was held up. Now we know what’s going to happen to St. Brown.

The NFL will fine Amon-Ra St. Brown $12,172

This is pretty much exactly what we thought would happen. There’s not going to be any suspension for the All-Pro receiver, but he does get the hefty fine. This is St. Brown’s third career fine. He was fined $43,709 for a blindside block against the Bears in 2023 and $11,255 for taunting against the Cowboys in 2024.

This isn’t going to make Commanders fans happy since their team clearly drew the short straw on this one, but this is the decision the league is going with, and that’s that. In terms of any punishment for the officials who were standing right there, there’s no public information about any of that, and the NFL tends to keep stuff like that close to the chest.
