Aaron Rodgers might be out of the NFL soon or not after the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 2025 season ended with a playoff loss to the Houston Texans on Monday night. But the quarterback is still very vocal about what he’s seen around the league.

And, in addition to supporting his current head coach, Mike Tomlin, the former Green Bay Packers franchise quarterback shared a big message of endorsement for Matt LaFleur.

“This league has changed a lot in my 21 years,” Rodgers said. “When you hear conversations about the Mike Tomlins of the world or the Matt LaFleurs of the world, those are two guys I played for. When I first got in the league, there wouldn’t even be a conversation about whether those guys were on the hot seat. But the way the league is covered now, with snap decisions and the validity given to Twitter experts and all the experts on TV who make it seem like they know what they’re talking about, to me that’s an absolute joke.”

Rodgers knows what LaFleur is capable of as a head coach

Aaron Rodgers worked with Matt LaFleur for four seasons, and the head coach was able to elevate the veteran quarterback’s game. Rodgers won two MVPs under LaFleur, and they both created a strong connection that made the situation on the Packers viable even with all Rodgers’ problems with the front office after the decision to draft Jordan Love.

“For either of those two guys to be on the hot seat is really apropos of where we’re at as a society and as a league,” Rodgers added. “Obviously, Matt’s done a lot of great things in Green Bay and we had a lot of success. Mike T has had more success than damn near anybody in the league for the last 19 or 20 years. More than that, when you have the right guy and the culture is right, you don’t think about making a change. There’s a lot of pressure that comes from the outside, and obviously that sways decisions from time to time, but it’s not how I would do things and it’s not how the league used to be.”

For now, the Packers seem to be inclined to keep Matt LaFleur and give him a contract extension. He won’t be fired. But if a deal doesn’t get done, the franchise could look for options — and a trade isn’t unimaginable. However, Aaron Rodgers knows the value of LaFleur and what he actually brings to the table.
