The Green Bay Packers added three veteran offensive linemen since the loss to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 3 (Laken Tomlinson, Mekhi Becton, and Kevin Zeitler), and they should be glad they did it. Beyond the talent issue at the position, injuries keep affecting how head coach Matt LaFleur can build the offense. The problem now is that depth will be tested up front on both sides of the ball.

Left guard Aaron Banks (knee/toe) and right guard Jacob Monk (quadricep) missed practice throughout the entire week and now have been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 4. Jager Burton, with a groin injury, is questionable to play.

On the other side of the ball, defensive tackles Warren Brinson (calf/groin) and Anthony Campbell (ankle) have also been declared out for the game. Linebacker Edgerrin Cooper is questionable with a concussion and shoulder injury.

  • G Jacob Monk (out – quadricep)
  • DT Warren Brinson (out – calf/groin)
  • DT Anthony Campbell (out – ankle)
  • IOL Jager Burton (questionable – groin)

Offensive line construction

Along the offensive line, the Packers have 11 players on the 53-man roster and four on the practice squad after the recent additions. Even with Banks and Morgan out and Burton questionable, the Packers would still have enough flexibility to activate the normal eight players at the position group,. Even nine if Burton is able to play and they want to be extra cautious with Kevin Zeitler.

Based on the week of practice, the line will have Jordan Morgan at left tackle, Laken Tomlinson at left guard, Sean Rhyan at center, Zeitler or Donovan Jennings at right guard, and Anthony Belton at right tackle.

The backup options are Burton, John Williams, and Travis Glover. Becton is still on the practice squad and could potentially be elevated for gameday.

Defensive line impact

The D-line also has strong depth because the Packers carry seven defensive tackles on the active roster. So even without Brinson (who could go on IR) and Campbell, the rotation will still have Devonte Wyatt, Karl Brooks, Javon Hargrave, Chris McClellan, and Jonathan Ford.

Green Bay also added undrafted rookie David Blay Jr. to the practice squad during the week. A former Miami (FL) prospect, Blay has already spent some time with the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles.
