There was once a time in Formula One when Alpine secured double points every single race. In 2024, it has been a struggle for them. If you're not sure what I'm talking about, as F1 is not the most popular of sports in the U.S., well, Kansas City Chiefs superstars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce own a percentage of the BWT Alpine F1 team.

They became part owners and investors in the BWT Alpine F1 team, formerly known as Renault, in 2022. Since then, they have been actively involved in the team's operations and have supported the team as they look for growth and success.

But he and Travis Kelce also own one other sports team that doesn't get talked about quite enough in the local Kansas City area, mainly because it's much more of a global sport than an American sport. The two of them are part owners and investors in a Formula One team called BWT Alpine F1, which is a French-based team in F1. They saw an opportunity to pounce on an investment idea, and haven't looked back since.

But, it hasn't been sunshine and rainbows for the team. There are four main teams in F1 this year, who are all considered to be the best of the best and compete for championships. Then the other six teams are basically competing for the title of "the best of the rest." That is where Alpine falls in this season.

They started the season terribly, but have since had a few good races strung together. It seems like every week now we are saying that they have had their best week yet, and this week is no different.

For the Spanish Grand Prix this weekend, the two Alpine drivers started in seventh and eighth place for the race. They didn't quite finish there, as the two cars behind them due to a penalty who were much better, would end up passing them. But, they did finish with a haul of three points, making them have eight on the year now, passing the American F1 team, Haas.

Pierre Gasly finished ninth, with two points, and Esteban Ocon finished 10th, with one point.

The way the point system works in F1 is as follows: drivers 1-10 get points, with first place getting 25, second getting 18, third getting 15, fourth getting 12, fifth getting 10, sixth getting 8, seventh getting 6, eighth getting 4, ninth getting 2, and 10th getting 1. Out of the top 10 drivers, if any of them get the fastest lap time during a race, they get an extra point. This system rewards consistent performance and encourages drivers to push for the fastest lap, even if they are not in the top positions. It's a key factor in determining the overall standings and can make a significant difference in the outcome of a race or a season.

It's consistency and improvement that should make the owners and investors of Alpine happy.
