Stefon Diggs and 3 more free agents who actually make sense for the Kansas City Chiefs’ roster with OTAs around the corner

The Kansas City Chiefs could still do some spending in free agency in order to improve their 90-man offseason roster. Former New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills receiver Stefon Diggs is among the players who make sense.

The Kansas City Chiefs are on the hunt to improve their roster following the 2026 NFL Draft, with OTAs rapidly approaching.

Chiefs GM Brett Veach confirmed he’s been in contact with the agents of some of the top remaining free agents. Adam Schefter reported Kansas City had shown interest in WR Jauan Jennings before he signed with the Minnesota Vikings. While nothing seems imminent, it feels like it’s only a matter of time before the Chiefs sign a veteran free agent. It might take until training camp, but if the opportunity arises for Veach to improve the roster, he’ll certainly explore it.

You might be asking yourself: “Who is actually left on the free agent market?”

It’s not as flush with talent as it was back in March, but there are still several difference-makers out there who can improve the Chiefs’ 90-man offseason roster at multiple positions.

Four free agent fits for the Kansas City Chiefs’ 90-man offseason roster

Stefon Diggs

With his off-the-field situation now squared, the football of it all makes a whole lot of sense between Diggs and the Chiefs. Yes, he’s 32, which is typically a no-go for Brett Veach. That said, Diggs is coming off a highly efficient season with the New England Patriots in 2025. He recorded 85 receptions on 102 targets for 1013 yards with four touchdowns. He had a 2.9% drop rate and averaged 2.5 yards per route run against man coverage. There’d also be something poetic if Diggs comes in and manages to get a ring with the team that kept him from that in Buffalo.

Cam Jordan

Jordan has been the ideal free agent fit at edge rusher for a while now. It feels like he’s being recruited by the team after appearing at Patrick Mahomes’ charity golf event. Not only does he fit the physical prototype that they’ve preferred at 6-foot-4 and 287 pounds, but he’s also played for Steve Spagnuolo before. If the Chiefs feel they need to add depth, Jordan feels like a player who can elevate the room, even at 36. He’s coming off a 10.5 sack season in 2025, which is more than any single defender generated in Kansas City last year.

Bobby Okereke

If there’s one position group on the 90-man roster that I am most worried about, it’s the linebacker position. They’re a few untimely injuries away from having a whole lineup of undrafted free agent talent as starters. Okereke was a third-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Stanford. In every season in which he’s started at least 16 games, Okereke has recorded 130 total tackles. He has experience playing MIKE linebacker, but I feel like he could play all three spots in Steve Spagnuolo’s defense.

L’Jarius Sneed

The Chiefs have done a lot to reinforce their cornerback group following the departures of Trent McDuffie, Jaylen Watson, and Josh Williams this offseason. The team traded up for Mansoor Delane at No. 6 overall. They also invested quite a bit to improve the slot cornerback role with additions of Kader Kohou and Jadon Canady. Sneed has appeared in just 14 of 34 possible games over the past two seasons with the Titans. Yes, he’s got injury issues, but it’d be hard to be disappointed with a prove-it style contract here. He knows the system, and the staff knows him. I suspect this signing would happen around training camp after they get a look at the cornerback group in OTAs.

Kansas City Chiefs Salary Cap Overview

The Chiefs will need to create salary cap space just to finish signing their rookie draft class. That also means they’ll need additional space in order to sign a free agent.

  • Free Cap Space: $6.145M
  • Cap Space Needed For 2026 NFL Draft Picks: $13.7M
