KANSAS CITY – While the offense has been jaw-dropping for the last five or so years, the defense has not. In fact, the Bob Sutton defense was jaw-droppingly bad.

Obviously, the defense behind Steve Spagnuolo is better. However, it still has not quite been to the level it can be, the level it needs to be.

Is it the defense that's kept the Chiefs from having more than one Super Bowl by now? Maybe, or maybe not. However, if it was better than it is right now, we may not be having this conversation.

The defense has been living in the shadow of the offense the last few years. The way the team is looking right now, that could change in the near future. They could be at the same level, or even above the offense.

With the recent draft picks on defense, the Chiefs are in good hands. Especially with George Karlaftis learning from Chris Jones.

Chiefs' Karlaftis praises Jones

"Chris is obviously one of the best players in the league, and he is just a presence on the field and off the field, too. He has this aura about him if you will, and I'm just trying to learn from him. Playing next to him is just so great because he does so many great things on the field, and you can work off of him, so it's been really good," said Chiefs first-round pick George Karlaftis.

It has worked both ways between the two. Sometimes veterans don't like to mentor young players. But Jones was a little different with Karlaftis.

"I think the day after the draft he reached out to me. He sent me a message on social media and we have been talking," expressed Karlaftis.

The Chiefs' young pass rusher is in good hands, learning from one of the league's best. This news should only make Chiefs fans even more excited.
