Kansas City Chiefs’ inactive players list for Week 8 vs. Denver Broncos sees the team’s lone practice squad elevation sitting out
The Kansas City Chiefs have announced their inactive players list for Week 8 against the Denver Broncos. One player, elevated from the practice squad, is sitting out.
The Kansas City Chiefs have announced their inactive players ahead of their Week 8 tilt with the Denver Broncos at Empower Field at Mile High Stadium on Sunday.
The Chiefs had one status downgrade ahead of Week 8, with rookie CB Mansoor Delane going from questionable to out. He’ll have only played three defensive snaps against Denver after his Week 1 interception, during which he reinjured his shoulder. This marks the second time he’ll miss a game this season due to his shoulder injury. All four of the players who entered Week 8’s game questionable for the Broncos are active.
Here’s a closer look at the inactive players for Kansas City and Denver.
Kansas City Chiefs’ inactive players
- QB Garrett Nussmeier (Emergency 3rd QB)
- FB Ben VanSumeren
- CB Mansoor Delane
- DE Jack Pyburn
- DE Tyreke Smith
- OT Diego Pounds
Denver Broncos’ inactive players
- S Talanoa Hufanga
- QB Sam Ehlinger (Emergency 3rd QB)
- OL Gavin Ortega
- DL Jordan Jackson
- OL Kage Casey
- DL Tyler Onyedim
- TE Dallen Bentley
Why isn’t DE Tyreke Smith playing after being elevated from the Chiefs’ practice squad?
The Chiefs hedged their bets by elevating DE Tyreke Smith from the practice squad via standard elevation. DE R Mason Thomas missed Friday’s practice for personal reasons and did not travel with the team to Denver. He traveled on his own and rejoined the team Saturday night. At that point, the Chiefs removed his questionable game status designation.
If Thomas had been unable to rejoin the team, Kansas City likely would’ve relied on Smith instead. It’s a bit surprising, given that Jack Pyburn is on the 53-man roster, but Smith has been in the system for multiple seasons now. This will also net him a game check, even though he’s ruled inactive. It’s a quiet reward for a scout team player who has been key depth for Kansas City.
