Mansoor Delane sits out of practice plus latest Kansas City Chiefs injury and attendance updates from Day 1 of mandatory minicamp
Kansas City Chiefs’ No. 6 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, Mansoor Delane, was sidelined on the first day of mandatory minicamp. Plus updates on L’Jarius Sneed, Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and more players.
The Kansas City Chiefs kicked off Day 1 of mandatory minicamp practices on Tuesday, June 9.
It marks the beginning of the end of Phase III of the offseason workout program before the team breaks for several weeks ahead of training camp. That’s when the real fun begins. After being allowed only one open practice session per week during OTAs, the Chiefs now have media members in attendance for all three practice sessions.
With the mandatory nature of the minicamp, attendance is one of the biggest things to monitor. There are financial implications for players who do not show up for practice, but it’s also a time to truly monitor any injuries that may have recently popped up. On Day 1, the most notable participation update was on Chiefs first-round CB Mansoor Delane.
Chiefs 2026 Mandatory Minicamp Information
The Chiefs will hold a three-day mandatory minicamp from June 9th through 11th. The rules are no different from OTAs: team drills are allowed, but live contact and pads are disallowed. Players who do not attend are subject to fines issued at the team’s discretion, totaling up to $107,911.
- Day 1 Fine: $17,986
- Day 2 Fine: $35,973
- Day 3 Fine: $53,952
Chiefs rookie CB Mansoor Delane was on the sidelines without a helmet during practice
This is the one that fans will almost certainly get concerned about. According to multiple reports from practice, Chiefs rookie CB Mansoor Delane was spotted on the sidelines without a helmet. This would typically suggest that the No. 6 overall pick is dealing with some sort of injury.
Combine that with the fact that the team just signed CB L’Jarius Sneed, and panic could set in. Media members won’t hear from Andy Reid until the final mandatory minicamp practice on Thursday, so there’s no official update from the team on Delane’s status just yet.
The good news is that if he’s injured and the injury was anything serious, he wouldn’t be outside, standing around, and watching his teammates at practice. He was still out there getting the mental repetitions, which are obviously super valuable for a rookie. He also was spotted running through some individual footwork drills on the sideline.
I’d caution against overreacting to this one.
L’Jarius Sneed doesn’t participate on Day 1 of Chiefs mandatory minicamp
The KC Star’s Pete Sweeney reports that Sneed walked onto the practice field midway through the day in a T-Shirt. FOX 4 KC’s Taylor Burr spotted Sneed watching practice on the sideline with members of the staff.
Why didn’t Sneed participate? While the deal between the Chiefs had been reported, it was not formally filed with the league office as of Monday, June 8. The ink was still drying on the paper, with an official announcement from the team coming after practice wrapped up.
He could be out there as early as tomorrow.
Xavier Worthy & Jaden Hicks still wearing yellow ‘no contact’ jerseys
Worthy and Hicks both wore yellow non-contact jerseys during OTAs, and that remains the case for mandatory minicamp. This is another overstated issue. Yes, the players aren’t 100% and are unlikely to be full participants in practice. Andy Reid explained during OTAs that it’s common practice for players who underwent offseason procedures to wear the yellow non-contact jerseys as they reintegrate. It’s just a method to further protect them from aggravating an injury that has been surgically repaired.
Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and other injury and attendance updates
- Patrick Mahomes is still only participating in 7-on-7 team drills. Andy Reid said during OTAs he wanted to avoid No. 15 getting in on any plays that involved sweep or jet motion where a collision could set Mahomes back. He’s also not yet in a spot where he can extend the play with his legs, so he’s focusing more on staying in the pocket.
- Rashee Rice is among the players absent from mandatory minicamp, which was expected given his 30-day jail sentence. It’s unclear if the team will or won’t waive the fines associated with missing mandatory minicamp.
- Second-year TE Jake Briningstool, who missed his rookie campaign with an injury, was back at practice. He had his helmet on during the stretch period after not participating in the final day of OTAs.
- For the Swifties: Travis Kelce was in attendance after not being present during both open media practice at OTAs. I’m told he looked just like his normal self out at practice, bringing the energy.
