There was a moment there for a while when we all tried to make Patrick Mahomes out to be the next up-and-coming greatest quarterback of all time. We tried to compare him to the greatest to ever do it in Tom Brady, and you just can't do that. Now, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback has a relationship with him.

The two have already faced off six times. They have played twice in the playoffs, with Brady winning both, and four times in the regular season, with Mahomes winning three and Brady winning one. Overall, Mahomes is 3-3 against Brady.

Since then, Mahomes and Brady have formed a relationship, because Brady sees what we all see in Mahomes: greatness.

And Brady made that clear to Mahomes after the Divisional Round win over the Jaguars.

"He's a tough guy and I told him this the other night, I said I'm just really happy for you. And that's what champions are made of at the end of the day," Brady said on the most recent episode of his podcast, Let's Go!. "You gotta go out there and you gotta do what he did or else what? Then f— it, make it this far and do what, just let some other team [beat you]? No! You push to the limit and you go, look, this is what I'm here for.

"… So I really respect Patrick for how he came out there in the second half and how pissed he was when he got taken out by Coach Reid. (laughs) I'm sure he had a word for you, but to watch him come out in the second half and play great, that was awesome to watch.”

Mahomes confirmed what Brady said on Thursday.

"I have talked to Tom a little bit and, I mean I have a good relationship with him now, and he gives me a lot of advice, to help me, and why would you not want to learn from the G.O.A.T.," Mahomes said on Thursday. "Anytime anyone like that wants to give me advice, I'll take it in.

"It's cool to see the guys you have watched growing up your whole life, be able to talk to you on that type of platform."

It's cool to see that they have a relationship after having some pretty tough battles, especially when you think that this could have been the last time the Chiefs played Brady this season.

At least they went out and beat him, if so.

But what Mahomes said about Brady is exactly what you want. You want your young guy learning from the greatest to ever do it. How else would he get better if he doesn't learn from those before him?

Mahomes will only continue to get better, as we saw this season, and maybe one day we can look back and thank Brady for helping him do so. The guy won seven Super Bowls, so if you want Mahomes to be able to get anywhere near that, he is talking to the right guy.
