Kansas City Chiefs highlight CB Mansoor Delane’s bond with his dad on Father’s Day — where haircuts mean more

Kansas City Chiefs rookie CB Mansoor Delane cuts his own hair, the hair of his college teammates and even the hair of his younger brother. On Father’s Day, the team shared a look into how he learned that skill from his father, Jafau Delane.

Father’s Day is an important day for NFL players across the league. Not just those who are dads themselves, but those who share a special connection with their own fathers. That’s definitely the case for Kansas City Chiefs first-round draft pick Mansoor Delane and his father Jafau Delane.

Jafau has played a very active and intentional role in Mansoor’s football journey. He served as a guiding force in his college transfer from Virginia Tech to LSU, which ultimately led to the Chiefs selecting him at No. 6 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft. After Mansoor was selected in Round 1, the NFL showed him a special message from his father.

“Congratulations,” Jafau said, via the NFL. “You achieved your goal. I know you gave up on your academics early, so thank god this sort of did work out for you. But I do remember, you being born, I had a few names for you. But I had to see what you looked like first. And I swear, when you came out, you didn’t cry or nothing like that. It was almost like a business-as-usual kind of deal. You looked so grand like a Mansoor, that it kind of just fit your name perfectly. So that was kind of a testament to the character that you always ran with. We’ve had a few journeys and decisions to make in regards to football. Because your dream was very real. So, I always listened to what you were saying, but you still had to do all of the work. Once you made those changes, job well done. I’m so proud of you. I know the whole family is really excited about everything that you have accomplished. You never cease to amaze us. Keep it up, and let’s start all over and get back to work.”

The relationship between Mansoor and Jafau is about way more than just football. In fact, one of the most important lessons Mansoor learned from his father came from sitting in the barber’s chair.

For Father’s Day, the Chiefs released an intimate look into the relationship between Mansoor and Jafau. The two linked up in the Chiefs’ Player’s Lounge, where Mansoor jumped into the barber’s chair to get a fresh haircut (line-up) from his father. The two spoke about how Jafau was the household barber for Mansoor and his brothers while they were growing up. It was an act of service, where Jafau could take care of something for each of his boys.

“He just instills key attributes in me,” Mansoor said about Jafau. “Just like I think a level of confidence, too. Knowing that I’ve had someone who’s been there for me and showed me ways. Showed me the ropes of life. So, you know, when I go out into the world, when I go out to Kansas City, I’m a confident person. I feel like I’ve learned from the best. I just want to keep that for the next generation, for my kids and whatnot.”

Mansoor now cuts his own hair, has cut his teammate’s hair, and even his younger brother’s hair. He attributes that back to his father, Jafau, and how he took care of the cuts growing up.

“I think the biggest thing is people are afraid to take that first step,” Mansoor explained. “So I think, like I said, I just had the confidence taking my first step because I sat in the chair for so long and I seen how it was done. My dad could do it, I could do it. So then I think, you know, passing that out to my next generation where they see me cutting their hair, I think it’ll be great.”

Dads shape all of our lives through enduring lessons, both spoken and lived. This is just one example from the Chiefs’ newest player. Rest assured that every player on the team has a similar story to share.

A happy Father’s Day to every dad in the Chiefs Kingdom.
