On Tuesday, the Kansas City Chiefs start OTAs. There was a report that the Chiefs think quarterback Patrick Mahomes could be available at OTAs, but in a lesser capacity, obviously. That more so means he would likely be doing some throwing with the team, working with the receivers and o-line in some capacity—very light things.

And while the media were not at practice and were not yet allowed to speak to players, the Chiefs did everyone a solid. They showed a simple but very important video. This video involved Mahomes throwing the ball at OTAs. They really know how to rile up their fan base.

In this video, he looks very good throwing the ball. He is, of course, wearing one of those heavy-duty knee braces that players wear after an ACL injury. However, it doesn’t seem to be restricting him much. Now, this is purely just a video of him throwing the ball, nothing more. He could still be far off from playing a live game. Either way, this helps ensure the timeline of him being potentially available to play Week 1.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes believes he can play Week 1

Mahomes tore his ACL near the end of last season. The Chiefs could be expecting quarterback Patrick Mahomes to play Week 1 against the Denver Broncos. That would be unprecedented, but it starts with the offseason workouts first. However, there has been some pushback on that prediction. His knee injury is a bit more complicated than the average ACL tear.

Not to mention, his Week 1 start wouldn’t align with the full recovery timeline athletes usually have for an injury like his. But this is Patrick Mahomes we are talking about. We know he recovers from injuries pretty quickly—just look at his high ankle sprain.

But this recovery would be truly insane, and it’s not just a hypothetical that he plays. This could really happen in Week 1. The Chiefs will need him this season if they want to bounce back from that horrid year. Getting Mahomes for a bit of OTAs will help.
