The Kansas City Chiefs walked away with the Lombardi trophy in 2022, but somehow they are predicted to do something in 2023 that they couldn't even do last season.
Last season was one of the best Chiefs' seasons of all time, as it is probably tied for the 2019 season, where both saw them hoisting the Lombardi trophy by the year's end. They did what only a few can do and many dream of doing, twice. The team as a whole has done it three times, but this particular core group are two-time world champions.
In 2019 they did it as the two seed in the AFC but had the fourth-best record in the league. Last season they were the one seed but were tied with the best record in the league with the Eagles, who they eventually ended up beating in the Super Bowl.
They did exactly what everyone wants to do in those two seasons, but somehow, they are predicted to do something in 2023 that they didn't do in either of those seasons. One NFL analyst predicted they have the best record in the league in 2023.
Caesars Win Total: 11.5 (over -115)
Brinson Projected Record: 14-3
There are plenty of difficult games on the Chiefs' schedule, but unfortunately, the Chiefs are the most difficult game on everyone else's schedule. -Will Brinson, CBS Sports
In 2019 and 2022 they didn't have the best record in the league, and in 2023 Will Brinson has the, finishing 14-3, which would be tied for the most wins in franchise history after they did it in the 2020 season. That year they had the most wins in the league but lost in the Super Bowl to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. So, let's hope that doesn't foreshadow that at all.
Brinson makes a great point about the schedule. Sure, their schedule is tough, but no one has a tougher opponent on their schedule than the Chiefs being on anyone's schedule. The Chiefs are the defending champions and maybe the favorites to do it all again this year.
The Chiefs are almost the same team but have some upgrades here and there, and of course, lost a few pieces. But there is one potential problem that it would appear Brinson has the Chiefs figuring out – the offensive line issue with the left and right tackle spots.
If that is an issue in training camp, and we can't figure out what will happen between Donovan Smith and Jawaan Taylor, it could be a recipe for disaster up front, and the Chiefs may not end up with that good of a record. Luckily they have the best head coach in the league and the best quarterback in the league, so there is likely a backup plan in that area.
Other than that one issue, I can easily see this team finishing 14-3 and with the best record in the league. They have what looks to be a better defense and the offense may be near the same level. If we get the same level of Mahomes in 2023, it will be a scary sight for the rest of the NFL no matter what the record ends up being.
