The scoreboard may say that the Kansas City Chiefs allowed 31 points, and they did, but the defense played better than the score would suggest. This defense has been consistently getting better, and it's looking like they could be elite.
With the players on this defense and the coaches the team has, there isn't an excuse anymore for having a poor defense like they did in the past. The Chiefs are making sure they don't need one and are playing out of their mind on that side of the ball.
One thing they are definitely doing better is getting to the quarterback. They had a big play in the game where they did just that, but on a cornerback blitz.
"Yes we have been showing it," L'Jarius Sneed said when asked about the blitzed sack he had on Tom Brady. "You know, I executed it well. They didn't pick me up. The guys on the back end disguise it well. I try to wait because you know Tom Brady is going to pick it up real fast, so I try to wait and disguise it."
Sneed is right. They didn't pick him up. This wasn't his first sack this year, either, and not the first time the cornerback blitz wasn't picked up. The Chiefs are doing an amazing job disguising the blitz.
And, it has to feel great for a young guy like Sneed to sack the greatest football player of all time.
"It felt good. It felt great," Sneed said when asked about how it felt to sack Brady.
To make it feel even better, Sneed doesn't play a position that gets a ton of sacks. now, he has one on Tom Brady. But how did he do it? How does a guy like Brady not pick up something as simple as a cornerback blitz?
Sneed was seen playing with his gloves and his helmet just before the ball was snapped. He was doing exactly what we thought he was, and it was genius.
"It's just what I do to not let him know I'm not coming or anything."
The defense played great, despite allowing 31 points. They got to the quarterback and also shut down the run game by allowing just three rushing yards.
This is the perfect all-around game the Chiefs need to play against an opponent like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Not to mention, this was the perfect way to get revenge. If only the score could have been 31-9.
