Chiefs Training Camp Takeaways, Day 8: Players get a break with light practice ahead of day off
Our takeaways from Day 8 of 2025 Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp.
2025 Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp rolled into Day 8 on Wednesday, which was a short, no-pads practice.
Players will get the day off on Thursday before heading into a three-day practice stretch through Sunday. Wide receivers Hollywood Brown (ankle), Xavier Worthy (concussion), and Skyy Moore (hamstring) did not participate on Wednesday after getting banged up on Tuesday. The Chiefs don’t seem worried about Brown or Moore long-term, but Worthy is in the NFL’s concussion protocol.
Right tackle Jawaan Taylor also got the day off after practicing in full for the first time yesterday. The team is being cautious with him after he had offseason knee surgery. Tight end Jake Briningstool (hamstring) and linebacker Jeffrey Bassa (ankle) were also out. Defensive backs Kristian Fulton, Deon Bush, Darius Rush, and Eric Scott Jr. remain out of practice. Fulton remains on the Active/PUP list.
Wednesday’s practice was a glorified walkthrough
Players weren’t competing against each other in the traditional way that they do during most practices. After three grueling days of padded practices, the Chiefs slowed things down and focused on certain looks at less than full speed.
This allows the players to get a solid workout in without putting the wear-and-tear on their bodies that they get from padded practices.
QB Patrick Mahomes airs it out to various WRs
With the defense focusing more on itself rather than trying to beat the offense, that allowed Mahomes to air it out all over the field. Although the reps weren’t necessarily competitive, it’s always good for Mahomes to continue to build chemistry with his receivers. Our friend Nick Jacobs of KSHB 41 noted that Mahomes hooked up with pass catchers such as Travis Kelce, Noah Gray, Tyquan Thornton, Jason Brownlee, and Nikko Remigio throughout the practice session.
As has been the case throughout all of camp, Thornton has continued to be a reliable deep threat. Combining that with his ability to play gunner on special teams, Thornton appears to be a safe bet to make the 53-man roster next month.
