Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes surprised himself on Sunday night in his team's 41-31 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
And it didn't have anything to do with his play on the field — even though one of the plays he made against the Bucs reminded everyone of why Mahomes is considered the best quarterback in the NFL by many folks.
What surprised Mahomes was his mental state going into Raymond James Stadium.
This was the Chiefs' first time returning to Tampa since losing Super Bowl LV to the Buccaneers in early 2021.
Mahomes said he didn't think he'd use that loss as motivation, but walking into the stadium changed his perspective.
This ended up being one of the Chiefs' best wins of the year, so I'd say that motivation served Mahomes well.
Maybe that's a sign that Kansas City is about to go on a huge tear the rest of the season.
