Mansoor Delane was considered to be the best cornerback prospect in the 2026 NFL Draft. Having traded away Trent McDuffie and letting Jaylen Watson walk, the Kansas City Chiefs needed another CB.

The Chiefs focused heavily on defense in the draft, with their first four picks all being on that side of the ball. Two of those picks were cornerbacks, and two were pass rushers—their two biggest defensive flaws. With Delane and Co., the Chiefs could be right back to being the elite defense we’ve all known them to have.

However, some work still needs to be done. The good thing is, Delane has already taken it upon himself to work on some things. He’s not a bad press man, CB, by any means.

But playing press man in college is completely different from playing it in the pros. There’s always room to improve, and Delane already knows that. He recently posted a video of himself getting some big-time work in.

Chiefs need Delane to be CB1 in year 1

The Chiefs now have a very, very young CB room with McDuffie and Watson gone. Nohl Williams and Delane, a sophomore and a rookie this season, could be the two guys starting on the boundary. Then Canady, the rookie nickel, could see some significant playing time in Year 1.

They don’t have anyone but maybe Kristian Fulton, with heavy experience to lean on. And even Fulton doesn’t have the experience you’d think with his injury history. Delane will have a huge role in Year 1 and will be a guy they really, really lean on. This further shows why the Chiefs made the right move by trading up to get their guy.

And, it shows that they believed Delane is ready for the challenge. We have a while till we finally find out if he is indeed ready, but it already feels like he is.
