The NFL has a big decision to make when it comes to the Kansas City Chiefs and the 2023 season.
Kansas City's win in Super Bowl LVII against the Philadelphia Eagles means the Chiefs are in line to host the Thursday night game that will open the 2023 season.
But who will Kansas City play?
There are three perfect options for the NFL to choose and all of them would be exciting.

Option 1: Chiefs and the Eagles part II
The Chiefs are scheduled to host the Eagles in 2023 so it wouldn't be a surprise if the NFL had the rematch go down in week one. There would be a ton of hype for a rematch on opening night.
This scenario has only happened once previously. In 2016, the NFL scheduled the Denver Broncos against the Carolina Panthers to open the season. Denver beat Carolina in the Super Bowl to cap the 2015 season. And then the Broncos beat the Panthers to open the 2016 season.
Option 2: Rematch of the AFC Championship game
Kansas City is also scheduled to host the Cincinnati Bengals next season.
The rivalry between Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow is going to be another all-time great NFL quarterback rivalry. And I'm sure we're in store for a load of classic games between the two transcendent quarterbacks. Pitting them against each other in week one would provide plenty of hype.
But I'm not sure the NFL would want to schedule this game in week one. The first game of the year is going to have a lot of build-up regardless. And I think this game would be better off being played on a Sunday night in December when it could have more of a noticeable impact on the race for the No. 1 seed in the AFC.
Option 3: Patrick Mahomes vs Josh Allen
The Chiefs have quite the home schedule in 2023 as they are also set to host the Buffalo Bills.
While the rivalry between Burrow and Mahomes received more attention this season (likely because they met in the playoffs), the rivalry between Josh Allen and Mahomes is going to be just as epic over the next decade.
Allen got the best of Mahomes last year in the regular season, but I bet Bills fans are still sour over that overtime playoff loss the previous season.
But just like with the Cincinnati game, I think the NFL would be wise to save this game for later in the season — because it will also likely have a major impact on seeding in the AFC.
That's why I think the NFL should schedule a rematch between the Chiefs and the Eagles in week one. Some of the hype for that game would fade if it's played later in the season. If it's scheduled for week one, then "the rematch" can be hyped all offseason. And I think that's the perfect scenario for the NFL.
