Grading the trade: Rams just doubled down on their famous mantra following a blockbuster deal that has netted them Myles Garrett
The Los Angeles Rams swooped in and made the biggest NFL trade in recent memory on Monday. But was the trade worth it? Here is a grade following the acquisition of Myles Garrett in exchange for Jared Verse and draft picks.
The Los Angeles Rams have never been afraid to push the envelope when it comes to the construction of their roster. Coining the famous phrase “f them picks,” Les Snead and Sean McVay pushed all of their chips into the middle of the table with Matthew Stafford a few years back and it netted them a Super Bowl.
Well, after an offseason that had a lot of noise surrounding the franchise with Puka Nacua, and then the selection of Ty Simpson in the first round, many were wondering why the Rams were seemingly squandering their Super Bowl window with Matthew Stafford coming off an MVP season. Well, the calendar flipped to June, and the Rams just proved they are all in, once again.
Myles Garrett 2025 stats
- 84 pressures.
- 23 sacks.
- 3 forced fumbles.
Rams make blockbuster trade for Myles Garrett
The trade for Myles Garrett will undoubtedly go down as one of the biggest in NFL history. Seldom do you see future first ballot Hall of Famers get traded at the peak of their powers. Garrett will turn 31 in December but he’s shown no signs of slowing down.
The 7x Pro Bowler and 5x first team All-Pro is coming a 23 sack season where he won his second Defensive Player of the Year award. The writing was seemingly on the wall for a Garrett trade this offseason.
Not only did a new coaching staff with no allegiance to Garrett come to Cleveland, but Garrett was a no-show for various offseason activities and was expected to miss mandatory minicamp next week. The Browns also reworked Garrett’s contract to make him more affordable via trade, and here we are.
Final Grade: A+
The final trade terms have been released. The Browns will be getting a haul, including a 2027 1st round pick, a 2028 2nd round pick, a 2029 third-round pick, and pass rusher Jared Verse. The second and third feel like icing on the cake, and don’t get me wrong, it’s a lot. But a 1st, 2nd, and third years away alongside a player swap is not that much when it comes to a once-in-a-lifetime talent.
The Rams replace Verse with arguably the best pass rusher of his generation, coming off a career year, and with the flexibility to rework his deal. It also aligns with the team’s timeline, as Matthew Stafford is looking for one more run before sailing off into the sunset, and giving way to the next quarterback, Ty Simpson.
You rarely see deals of this magnitude come to fruition in the NFL, but it’s only fitting that it came from the Rams.
