All hell just broke loose in the Miami Dolphins’ wide receiver room
The ultimate wild card has officially entered the fray for the Miami Dolphins’ 2026 wide receiver room.
Woah buddy. The landscape of the Miami Dolphins‘ wide receiver room has just shifted.
Miami has enjoyed some productive flashes from third-round rookie Caleb Douglas over the course of the first three weeks of training camp. Third-year wide receiver Malik Washington has flashed a lot of chemistry with new starting quarterback Malik Willis, too. But the rest of the group has yet to really click into place on the heels of the team’s first preseason contest. Perhaps a new face is just what the doctor ordered. The Dolphins, conveniently enough, have one. Fellow third round rookie Chris Bell is, officially, active.
The Miami Dolphins have activated wide receiver Chris Bell off the non-football injury (NFI) list
Bell was projected as a possible top-50 draft selection in the 2026 NFL Draft before he tore his ACL at the end of the 2025 season. He’s a locomotive with the ball in his hands. But, because of the injury and subsequent rehab? He’s not really been a factor in the conversations about the wide receiver room.
That will change now. With his transaction off of the NFI list, Bell will be able to practice fully with the rest of the team and continue to work his way into football shape.
The race against the proverbial clock may still see Bell ill fit to play a prominent role in the offense early in his season. But the fact that he’ll get nearly a month before the start of the regular season? It’s a possible game-changer for Miami.
It also changes the math for the Miami Dolphins’ wide receiver room. Three rookie wide receivers appear set to claim spots on the 53-man roster. Douglas, Bell, and fifth-round rookie Kevin Coleman Jr. should be locks. They’ll be joined by the aforementioned Washington, making it a total of four locks for receivers on the roster. Will the Dolphins keep five? Six?
Bell’s injury recovery paved the way for a few of the redemption veterans Miami signed this offseason to make the 53-man roster. That includes Jalen Tolbert and Tutu Atwell. Neither name can assume anything now, thanks to the numbers crunch facing the wide receiver room. Things are going to get crowded pretty quickly if Bell proves he’s ready for a role to start the year. Business has just picked up — and the arrival of Bell on the active roster means hell could break loose for these veterans trying to make the team.
