‘He just doesn’t stop’—Jeff Hafley just heaped praise on a possible Miami Dolphins 2026 breakout candidate
Miami Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley just handed out his strongest endorsement to a player of the offseason.
The Miami Dolphins will have plenty of youngsters cracking the starting lineup in 2026. For many of those young players, there’s a high variance of outcomes for how they’re going to perform.
But it sure feels like the projection for one of Miami’s second-year defenders is pretty cut and dry. And the floor is admirably high. Miami Dolphins second-year defensive tackle Jordan Phillips was just a 5th-round draft choice. But expect a major impact with his play on the field — even if you don’t see his name filling up the stat sheet. Phillips got about as strong of an endorsement as head coach Jeff Hafley has handed out to any player this offseason on Thursday afternoon.

“Jordan is a guy that is not going to get enough credit because he kind of plays a position where the limelight’s not going to be on him. He’s going to be taking on double teams, he’s going to be doing the grunt work and keeping the linebackers clean. Pushing the pocket. You know? The stats might not be there but the cool thing about him is he just embraces that role. He is one of the toughest, most physical, most driven guys that I have been around.
And usually that’s one of the hardest positions to play. You’re getting 600 plus pounds double-teaming you and driving you and hitting you. And what do you do? You just take those on and try to anchor. And then you don’t get a lot of credit. But I love the guy. I love his attitude, his mentality. The players have this weekend off, so we’re asking a lot of guys where they’re going …Jordan will be in the sauna at 5AM tomorrow, probably lifting weights…he just doesn’t stop. I’ve got a lot of respect for him.”

Consider me buying big on Jordan Phillips taking a major leap in 2026. The big question will be, as Hafley outlined, whether or not there’s enough opportunity in his role to become a household name. Perhaps not. I don’t envision Jordan Phillips rolling up big numbers rushing the passer this season. And lord knows sacks are one of the be all, end alls of defensive line play for the masses.
But I’d be willing to bet if you look beyond Phillips’ pressure numbers, you’ll see countess reps of Phillips facilitating plays for his teammates. You don’t get an endorsement that strong and a grin that big from a head coach without good reason. We’re about to see why Phillips got his flowers in the weeks ahead.
